I always find it difficult putting my work into words, but here's me trying to vocalise this thing I was a part of.
So grateful also to have been collaborating with others on this residency, so many other talented makers, recording, photographing and otherwise getting creative. Looking forward to seeing more of this activity again this year. @apandadeada @grupo_finsa @work.on.wood

Back in 2021, I reached out to @work.on.wood in Porto with the idea to collaborate on a project which mixed art, architecture, and woodwork. We ended up in the forests of Galicia creating an artist residency in which I moved through the forest performing improvised constructions, alongside other activities and events. Since 2021 @apandadeada has continued and I am finally making a post about my time there. Better late than never 😊. Big shout out to all the people that were on the site, making and capturing some very special moments. @grupo_finsa @work.on.wood @apandadeada .

These floating objects sit within the permanence of the building and it's structure, one is light weight, soft and flexible with room for play, the other is hard, motionless and immovable. I'm not sure if they contrast or compliment one another.

Disorder, disturbance and dislocation on an otherwise formal facade. When I went into this residency, I didn't know where I would end up. But as I became focused on these floating elements I started wanting more; and while I made some tests with them in order and aligned, in the end I felt more at home with the these uncertain distributions.

#colour and #stripes . I'm normally into natural looking finishes, because they are more honest to the material being used. But for this holiday inspired bench, we had to get some colour on the go. The oil and varnish combination I used gives it a bright and hard-wearing finish, but still allows the grain of the #galician pine to come through.

Quick Getaway is a project that highlights travel as a form of care. Unfortunately, many of us have been deprived of this throughout the pandemic. Which is something that has been particularly hard for those in dense urbanized cities such as London. The Quick Getaway bench creates a holiday inspired oasis in the heart of the city, providing a rest bite and triggering memories. Designed and Built by creative studio Ex Architectures, in collaboration with Spanish Architecture practice Flu-or Arquitectura. The wood used for the bench is thermally treated Galician pine and was supplied by Finsa UK. While the protecting oil was supplied by Rubio Monocoat.

This bench forms part of the 2021 City Benches, a design competition by the LFA, Cheapside Business Alliance and Aldgate Connect BID, that sees see a playful series of nine benches brightening the streetscape across Cheapside and Aldgate

Working on design and construction gives you a gre

Working on design and construction gives you a great view of the entire process. You don't have to stop at designing the object: you can start choreographing the making.

This is one of the reasons that I chose to do my exchange with @flu__or , who often get involved in constructing the projects they design.

Also major respect to designer and maker @leonlewbaum , who was a big part of the project and also probably climbed around 400m in total during construction.

This week I finished my Erasmus for Young Entrepre

This week I finished my Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs exchange in Coruña. In which I have been collaborating with @flu__or as well as investigating the wood industry in Galicia.
This video shows a project we installed in Madrid last year. A competition win that was followed by an intense couple of days of construction in Coruña and on site. I thought it would be a nice time to share and I hope we can collaborate again soon.

Flash back to August 2020 and the final couple of days of experimentation at @istoenormal residency organised by @colectivorpm . Check out the earlier posts on the project we were a part of called shelter. It was a good year for collaboration, 2020. Hopefully more to come in 2021.
